Therapeutic Use Exemption (TUEs)

As a Samoan athlete, upholding the value of fa'aaloalo (respect) means protecting your health and ensuring fair competition. If you need to use a medication or method on the Prohibited List to treat a medical condition, a Therapeutic Use Exemption (TUE) can help.

What is a TUE?

A TUE allows you to use a prohibited substance or method for therapeutic purposes only. The TUE Committee (TUEC) reviews applications and grants them if specific criteria are met.

When do you need a TUE?

Check the Prohibited List and consult your doctor if you need medication or a method listed. Inform your doctor you're an athlete subject to doping control, and they should check the Prohibited List before prescribing anything. If the medication/method is prohibited, explore alternative options. If no alternatives exist, apply for a TUE.

How to apply:

Fa'aaloalo and Clean Sport:

By understanding and applying for TUEs when necessary, you can protect your health, ensure fair competition, and uphold the values of fa'aaloalo (respect) in your sporting journey.
