Our Voyage
The Samoa Medical & Anti-Doping Agency (SMADA), previously known as the Samoa Anti-Doping Agency (SADA), boasts a distinguished history of protecting the integrity of sports in Samoa. Founded in 2007 by the Samoa Association of Sports & National Olympic Committee (SASNOC) with backing from the Samoan Government, SMADA emerged from the country's dedication to equitable competition and the welfare of its athletes.
Its creation marked a significant advancement, aligning with Samoa's preparation for the 2007 South Pacific Games and the nation's ratification of the UNESCO Convention Against Doping in Sport within that same year.
Initially dedicated to anti-doping regulations and testing, SADA acknowledged the necessity for a more holistic approach to athletes' health. In 2015, it expanded to include the role of the Medical Commission for SASNOC, offering extensive support for athletes' medical care and well-being. This significant development resulted in the renaming of SADA to SMADA, reflecting its wider mandate.
